Making a buzz for change! Goshen Global Vision (GGV) is thrilled to announce the next phase of our Urban and Peri-urban Forestry project, focusing on beekeeping as a vital intervention for improved natural resources management.
In our quest for environmental sustainability and increased crop yield, GGV identified beekeeping as a key to preserving secondary forests in urban areas of the Western Region, Ghana. This initiative aims to boost pollination, enhance economic benefits, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions for urban farmers.
But here’s the twist: there were no local producers of beehives, an essential component for this endeavor. So, Goshen Global Vision led by Perpetua Kwakuyi, backed by funding from the U.S. Forest Service, took action! We trained local carpenters under the guidance of Mr. Benjamin Prince Yankey, a seasoned professional trained by Hen Mpoano – Our Coast through a U.S Forest Service-funded project.
Our dedicated team trained four carpenters from the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Shama District, and Wassa East District Assembly. These skilled artisans acquired expertise in manufacturing beehives, thrilled to contribute to this transformative initiative.
At the culmination of the training, four Kenyan top-bar beehives were produced, serving as models for replication. GGV is paving the way for local carpenters to supply farmers in their communities with these essential tools, fostering a greener, more sustainable Ghana!
