
The World Environment Day is celebrated annually on June 5. Over the years, the commemoration of this celebration has been a robust driving force by the United Nations to promote awareness and action for the protection of the environment. The theme for 2021 celebration is “Ecosystem Restoration”.Goshen Global Vision (GGV), an environmental NGO based in Takoradi in the Western Region of Ghana, commemorated the day with tree planting activities. This also forms part of the project they are implementing dubbed,” Greening Sekondi-Takoradi twin city” in collaboration with Sekondi Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly, Ghana, Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly, Parks and Gardens, with funding from the U.S. Forest Service – International Programs. To mark this year’s celebration, GGV collaborated with an assemblywoman in Fijai, Hajia Madina and stakeholders on the the road median from Fijai Junction to Effia-Nkwanta as well as the Holy Child Practice Junior High School and Rev. Pinanko Junior High school. The stakeholders are; Taxi drivers, Calvary Charismatic Centre (CCC), the Western Regional Command of the Ghana National Fire Service personnel led by the Sekondi Divisional Commander Martha Solomon and popular food joint – Cott restaurant. These stakeholders were very instrumental in the tree planting exercise to mark GGV’s contribution to the worldwide annual day celebration.Goshen Global Vision is planting 7,000 ornamental plants, shrubs and fruit trees this 2021 in Sekondi-Takoradi and 155,000 native and economic trees in cocoa farms in 5 districts of the Western Region.We say THANK YOU to our committed stakeholders in their contributory support in marking this year’s World Environment Day celebration in the Western Regio.
