On Thursday, 12th October 2023, Goshen Global Vision-GGV with funding from U.S. Forest Service in collaboration with Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly’s (EKMA) Department of Social Welfare Ghana and Community Development Department are in the throes of setting up Village Savings and Loans (VSLA) for vegetable farmers in the Municipality to empower women to be financially independent. Many talks and planning have gone underway and finally we are on the last legs of the planning stages. Yesterday, was a learning visit to Asuboe, a town in Ahanta West where there is an existing VSLA for the group heads trained in EKMA to observe proceedings of the association, learn best practices and to have a hands-on first hand experience on the VSLA experience so we may do same in their communities!
In attendance was Mr. Emmanuel Obeng Dakyi, a Project Officer at Hen Mpoano – Our Coast, the supervisor to the VSLA group at Asuboe, who interpreted all proceedings and educated visitors.
Also with us was Madam Sadia Alimatu, Social welfare Community Development Officer, EKMA and her colleague, Mr. Frederick Boafo. Madam Sadia urged group heads on the visit to be diligent in practicing the further knowledge they have acquired as going so will help sustain their group after establishment and be able to serve the purpose for which it was established.
Watch out for us in your community as we empower women and youth!
